Washington Park Cultural Art Vibes: Digital Art Meets Traditional Art🖌️🎨

A summer event series to connect residents with nature through community healing, spreading joy, and activating the Washington Park through the arts . This was made possible through the Sprouts Fund initiative awarded by the Milwaukee Parks Foundation.

The community gathered for Washington Park Cultural Art Vibes: Digital Art Meets Traditional Art—an event designed to spark creativity, encourage self-expression, and bring people together through the power of art.

The first event of the series held in July featured several interactive stations that welcomed people of all ages. Attendees explored their creativity and self-expression through:

🎭 Emotional Expression Zone – where feelings found form through art
✏️ Free Draw Corner – imagination unleashed, no rules, just flow
🌈 Chalk Zone – a community masterpiece on the pavement captured in real-time by a drone
🥤🎨 Junior Sip & Paint – a kid-favorite filled with color, laughter, and creativity
✨ DIY Stamp-Making – design hands-on shapes, icons, and images

📸Polaroid Portrait Keepsake for every attendee to take home

Our lead collaborator Washington Park Media Center hosted Washington Park Pool Stories 💦to hear from community members the importance of Washington Park reopening the neighborhood pool. Families shared that they deeply miss the chance to create cherished summer memories at the pool. For many, swimming is more than just recreation—it’s a way to connect with nature right in their own neighborhood without the need to travel far. Reopening the pool would not only restore those experiences but also create local job opportunities and provide valuable lessons in water safety.

For many, this event of creation offered a therapeutic outlet for processing stress, joy, frustration, or simply a desire to express something unspoken. Art gave this community a voice in a creative way. This event was also a meaningful way to activate the Washington Park area in multiple ways to explore new spaces that aren’t visited as often.

We’re incredibly grateful to the partners who helped make this event a reality. Through the Milwaukee Parks Foundation’s generous funding as a Sprouts Fund recipient we were able to make this series happen. Thanks to our wonderful event collaborators, Washington Park Media Center, Milwaukee Public Library-Washington Park Branch, BLICK Art Materials for art supplies donation, and neighborhood artists Gabriel and Kiera all played a vital role in providing the space and support to make Washington Park Cultural Art Vibes a success. Check out a cool video replay on Washington Park Media Center’s Instagram Page.

And the best part? This was just the beginning.
